Abstract

The research compares the methodological and conceptual foundations of behavioural, constructivism and generative in its treatment of language acquisition regarding three approaches: the behavioral approach, learning mechanisms, the constructivist cognitive approach to language acquisition, and the generative cognitive approach. The research, through these approaches, showed the conflict between the rational and empirical perception of the nature of knowledge and the method of acquiring it in modern theories of language acquisition. The behavioral school of psychology is the most prominent representative of the empirical approach in the study of cognitive behavior, including what is termed verbal behavior, i.e. language. Generative linguistics is one of the most prominent defenders of rational perception in the approach to human knowledge, and linguistic knowledge in particular, while structural cognitive psychology classifies between the empirical and rational position.
