The Role of Halal Standards in Enhancing the Quality of Products and Services: An Analytical Study of the Saudi Legal System and Saudi Vision 2030

Abstract

This study originates from the significance of the legal framework in regulating and monitoring halal products and services, as well as ensuring their quality. This importance is especially highlighted given the diversity of these products and services and the ease with which they are transported around the world. What is produced in one country can be consumed in another within a short period. As a result, the most pressing question for Muslim consumers has become whether these products and services are genuinely halal. This question has often been associated with instances of deception and fraud. The underlying reasons behind such fraudulent practices are frequently linked to illegitimate marketing or commercial motives.Accordingly, this study aims to explore the role of law in regulating the production, distribution, and quality of halal products. The main problem of the study is formulated in the following question: To what extent are the current legal texts adequate and appropriate for addressing and regulating matters related to halal products and services and their quality levels? The study attempts to answer this question through a descriptive and analytical methodology،The study concludes that the existing legal texts are neither adequate nor appropriate for effectively addressing and regulating the halal industry and its related products, services, and details, particularly those related to quality standards. This is especially important because adherence to the required specifications for halal products and services often leads to an overall improvement in their quality،Based on these findings, the study arrives at a key recommendation: the necessity of legislative intervention by the Saudi regulator through the issuance of a specific system to regulate halal products and services and control their quality. To this end, the study proposes a set of aspects that must be taken into consideration when issuing such a system.
