The Holy Quran has received great attention from scholars and commentators throughout the ages. It has been a focus of research, contemplation, and interpretation. Approaches to it have varied, with diverse schools of thought and scholarly trends. Among the issues that have sparked widespread controversy and continue to be the subject of study and discussion is the issue of Meccan and Medinan verses in the Holy Quran. This issue has profound impact on understanding the temporal and spatial contexts of texts, determining the stages of legislation, identifying abrogating and abrogated verses, and the development of Quranic discourse،This research, entitled "The Problem of Meccan and Medinan in Al-Jabiri's Interpretation," sheds light on this issue through the perspective of Moroccan thinker Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri, who attempted to present a critical reading of Islamic heritage. He sought to reinterpret the Quranic text according to the order of revelation, transcending the accepted Qur'anic order and reconsidering the advanced criteria used by scholars and commentators to distinguish between Meccan and Medinan verses.Among the most prominent findings of the research are: Al-Jabiri's interpretation of Meccan and Medinan verses is based on a historical and social perspective, rather than the advanced criteria adopted by early scholars.Al-Jabiri believes that the arrangement of the Uthmanic Qur'an is a matter of personal interpretation. He proposes a new arrangement of the surahs according to the context of revelation, with the aim of revealing the legislative and psychological progression of the call.
Al-Jabiri's disregard for the auditory and analogical criteria adopted by scholars in distinguishing between Meccan and Medinan verses has sparked widespread controversy among his supporters and critics. His deconstructive approach to the Qur'anic text opens the door to new interpretations, but it raises questions about the limits of criticism and sanctity.Al-Jabiri's vision contributes to the renewal of Qur'anic studies, but it requires methodological control that takes into account doctrinal and interpretive constants. This issue remains open to research and discussion, calling for further studies that combine authenticity and modernity, balance criticism and sanctification, and history and text, thus achieving a deeper understanding of the Holy Qur'an in light of contemporary challenges.I ask God to benefit me and others with this research, and God is the Grantor of success in all good thingsResearcher
