The fundamental principle in Allah’s commandments to His creation is that the human being is to be free — free in thought, choice, will, volition, and similar aspects. Allah, the Almighty, has guaranteed this freedom.
Purpose of the Study:This study aims to clarify the concept of freedom of belief in Islam by reconciling between the texts that prohibit compulsion in religion and those concerning jihad and apostasy. It also seeks to address and refute the suspicions raised against the concept of freedom of belief in Islam, and to critique them. The research is divided into three main sections:Section One: The concept of freedom of belief in Islam ،Section Two: Freedom of belief in international charters،Section Three: Suspicions that contradict the concept of freedom of belief in Islam،The research concluded that Islam affirms freedom of belief, but it does so within a framework of principles and regulations — both at the individual and societal levels — in order to prevent chaos and harm.
