The impact of rhetoric in directing societal awareness and reviving citizenship: a study of the poem (A Homeland Flirts with Love for Its Youth) by Ahmed Shawqi as a model

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the poet Ahmed Shawqi’s poem (A Homeland That Flirts with Love for Its Youth) on the one hand, to follow the rhetoric in spreading societal awareness of the values of life and its interpretation, by examining its formulation, methods, and linguistic structures that he adapted to spread awareness in the souls of the nation’s sons. And how he employed the arts of rhetoric to express his meanings and feelings, so he picked flowers from its gardens that revealed the beauty of his craftsmanship, and uncovered a sincere soul and a high rhetorical taste, for which he selected from the words, images, and fields of meaning what fulfilled his feelings, conveyed his vision and ideas, and outlined the paths of development and construction. This was through contemplation and insight into his tools that express himself, and the manifestation of what was implied in the styles, structures, and images in revealing his meaning and purpose. To identify the features of influence in his system, his methodology for presenting his purpose and vision, and to consider the interplay of secondary meanings and images with the main purpose in the internal context and the general context of the text under study.
