Abstract

This research addresses a grammatical issue: the issue of applying the word to the meaning in Al-Mutanabbi's commentary on Al-Akbari's Diwan. Applying the word to the meaning is a well-known phenomenon in the Arabic language and grammatical studies. Linguists and commentators have employed this phenomenon as a resource that helps understand problematic Quranic verses and resolve their grammatical problems. Furthermore, it serves as a means of grammatical interpretation to bridge the gap between grammatical rules and linguistic texts. Applying the word to the meaning also addresses many verbal violations. What is meant by applying the word to the meaning of another word, or combining one meaning with another, due to a similarity between the two words or combinations in the figurative meaning.
The research aims to:
First: The interest of grammarians and linguists in this phenomenon to bridge the gap between grammatical rules and linguistic texts, and to address many verbal violations.
Second: Al-Mutanabbi's interest in applying the word to the meaning.
Third: Al-Mutanabbi's skillful use of this phenomenon in his poetry. At the end of this research, I concluded that Al-Mutanabbi over-emphasized the meaning in his poetry
