This research handled with (Sibawayh’s substitution approach), as it seeks to shed light on one of the methodological foundations adopted by Sibawayh to determine the type of linguistic elements and their grammatical functions, by classifying similar elements and classifying them in a way that allows substitution between them in the correct linguistic context. It also reveals elements that cannot be replaced in a sound linguistic structure. The research relied on the method of description, analysis, and statistics, benefiting from the evidence and structures of Sibawayh’s book, for which he provided grammatical and linguistic guidance based on the idea of substitution, while benefiting from the most prominent relevant linguistic and grammatical opinions. The study revealed in the topic (Sibawayh’s Substitution Approach) that Sibawayh adopted substitution as a tool. A major factor in classifying the three word divisions: noun, verb, and letter, and classifying their linguistic units. Through this mechanism, he was able to include many multi-element structures in the noun class based on their location and grammatical function. He also resorted to substitution within the verb class to solve compositional problems and explain grammatical phenomena. He also relied on the possibility of substitution between the three parts of words to justify grammatical phenomena that may deviate from analogy, explaining the areas of agreement between verbs and other elements. Finally, Sibawayh used substitution as a criterion to distinguish acceptable structures from rejected ones, defining the limits of integrity and referral according to linguistic custom and grammatical rules
