The Legal Role of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property in Protecting Scientific Research

Abstract

This study examines and analyzes the legal role played by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property in protecting scientific research, in light of the national direction to support innovation and knowledge within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030. The research highlights the importance of protecting copyright as a branch of intellectual property and focuses on the moral and financial aspects related to scientific and intellectual works, as well as mechanisms for protecting them from distortion, alteration, or theft.
The research problem is defined by identifying the legal framework for this protection, the Authority's role in enforcing related regulations, and the major legal challenges faced by authors, especially in the digital environment, in addition to the prescribed criminal penalties for violations.
The study adopts the descriptive-analytical method, relying on the analysis of legal texts and relevant previous studies. The findings emphasize the need to enhance legal awareness among researchers and to develop legislation in line with the challenges of the digital age. The study also calls for empowering the Authority to effectively carry out its duties to ensure a stimulating and secure research environment that respects intellectual property rights
