Ibadi Interest in Qur'anic Interpretation: The Interpretive Views of al-Jitali (d. 750 AH) as a Model, Based on His Book Qanatir al-Khairat

Abstract

This research concerns the field of Quranic exegesis. It demonstrates the Ibadi school's interest in the science of exegesis by highlighting the interpretive views of its scholars. Among these efforts are the interpretive views presented in the book Qanatir al-Khayrat (The Bridges of Goodness) by Abu Tahir al-Jitali, a prominent figure in the Ibadi school. In addition to the scholarly importance, historical status, and cognitive value of the book, we find a scholarly interest in the interpretive aspect of the Holy Quran, revealing the meaning the author of Qanatir sees in the Quranic text.
One of the reasons that prompted me to choose this topic is its connection to the study of Quranic sciences, specifically the science of exegesis, and its connection to Qanatir al-Khayrat, in which the researcher finds diverse scholarly interests, ranging from self-purification to connections to various branches of knowledge. The research topic derives its importance from the science it encompasses. It is closely linked to scholars and scholars, to the sciences of the Holy Qur'an, to the interpretation of the Qur'anic text, and to its divine implications and guidance. On the other hand, it is related to the contributions of a group of Muslim scholars from the Nafusa Mountains and surrounding areas, whose connection to and interest in the science of interpretation has been confirmed.
