Men's names in the Al-Baha region: a sociolinguistic study on a sample of students' names at Al-Baha University

Abstract

            In current the research, I've investigated the evolution of men's names in Al-Baha region, its attribution and reasons, I've also defined most of the names' meanings and quoted their meaning from lexicons. I've adopted the descriptive analytical approach according to the study sample; A list of the students' names at the Arabic Language Department in Al-Baha University, (1441H).

In the current research, I aimed to monitor the names of Al-Baha region, and to indicate the extent of their evolution, and its reasons.

I conclude: There are specific names of Al-Baha region, including: (SAEED - SAFAR - SALEH - JAMAAN - ATTIA - MISFER) and other names, as I monitor the fathers names' evolution that reached (27%) according to the study sample, that was due to development, globalization and the influence of some teachers in the region, television, rulers and politicians, among these names: (NAIF - MANSOUR - FAHAD - SULTAN) and other names, when compared  the percentage of evolution in the students names' sample to the names of the grandparents reached more than 70%, as new names appeared, weren't exist before due to the parents' desire, the influence of development and technology or the rulers and others, among these names: (MUHANNAD - HAITHAM - FAISAL - THAMER - SULTAN - KHALED - ABDULMAJEED) and other names.
