Abstract

This research cares about studying the methods of storytelling in the Saudi novel (Al- Jaheli novel by Leila Aljahni a model). This is mainly informed by the gains of modern narratives represented in the works of Junat, Rivara and Jean-Michel Adam.
From the linguistic viewpoint, these novels are interested in examining the forms of imaginary stories and some of its manifestations, such as descriptions and dialogue, which are the most important elements of story speech. The research has begun with an introduction followed by a preface and three sections, the first of them has been devoted to the narration.
It has three demands: temporal order, speed and frequency. The second section includes the description. It includes presenting description, occasion, and most important functions. The sections have been concluded with a third section that is entitled "Dialogue", addressing direct discourse, indirect discourse, and free indirect discourse. The research has found some results, the most important of them is that the narrator in the novel has followed two patterns: The traditional portrayal and the modern method.
So, its constructional methods of anecdotal text such as narration, description, and dialogue have been varied. According to this viewpoint, we affirm that the discourse is the anecdotal pillar and the most important criterion in determining the novelist's ingenuity. The novel is a literary art, not characterized by ideas, content, but by structure and wording.
